Well, I decided to add some Easter Eggs to the forum and thus created a skin. You can now choose between the Default skin and a Beast-themed skin.
Seeing as how I had quite a bit of fun designing the new forum skin, I'll try for the other races when I can.
By the way, if any of you have some ideas for icon replacements based on the Beast skin, show me the pictures here or else email them to me. I can replace any icon at all, from the ones near the title to the ones like bold-text and the smilies and whatever represents your rank -- right now it's a star.
Also, any tips on changing the new skin, I'm welcome to.
If you want to change skins, edit your profile -- the option is in there.

i didnt even know this forum can do skins. Btw, i thought changing this forum to a more advanced engine for quite some time. For example PHPBB. This has multiple reasons: 1: this forum's capabilities are somewhat limited. 2: it's off-site, the new one would be on one place with the main site. 3: Ace, who created this forum has left since long, but he's still the only person who has authority for significant changes, or for giving admin/moderator rights. 4: phpBB has better skinning capabilities. For example view the Requiem War forums: requiemwar.tengun.net/forumThe problem is that there is no way to retrieve and transfer the database of this forum. So all accounts and posts would be lost... that's a sad thing...

Well, I couldn't do much more with the skins. I tried. I rather like the result, though I'm sure better could be done. It's not like anyone has to use it. *shrug*
I have a solution to your problem, though: simply link to the old boards but lock them up. One of us can seal off everything and then provide a URL on the new boards. If a person wants to continue a topic, simply post a continuing thread in the new area.
Does your forum of choice allow for two "top admins"? As in, will we both have Ace's abilities? It would be rather irritating for either one of us to be stuck in the same position.

Yeah, PhpBB has much more advanced functions to manage permissions. We could even have private access subforums. Again, see Requiem War forum for example. All 3 core members of the mod team have admin rights, and we have a private section that's invisible for external users. Here we discuss the serious modding stuff, and share test files.

Sounding better every second. When are you going to create this? I'll be gone for all of this week, not that it really matters, I guess.

Let me think a bit so I will give you my feedback
I appreciate the effort you made to create this skin, and it's showing the potential of new skins. I am very interested in these.
However, I don't like the font used, nor the colours red, blue and yellow, together with a black background draw too much attention from our eye. Icons are not suitable to dark backgrounds, by the way.
So in short, sorry but it's too dark for me. I am the kind of guy who loves pretty love stories, beautiful topics in films, the power of friendship, innocence and so on :-P
But I'm sure we could all create a set of very cool skins using your knowledge, Nerath! Go on!

Ha ha ha. Occasionally I like dark themes. *shrug* The power of friendship and all that rocks as well. Though I'm not into romance stories unless they're comedies. (Anyone see My Big Fat Greek Wedding?) Hmm...I can see the icons just fine. Which noes are you talking about? Yeah, the skins have potential. I'm just poking around. So while I'm slacking off on those AI's (Man I hate making AI's.), I should fiddle around with a less obsessively dark one

In fact I am not in love stories too much. What I like is love stories between perfect characters, when these are well told, and everything involves the power of love, friendship, determination against all odds, and epic in any way, the typical good vs evil stories.
I know I am too old to like these kind of thigs, but I do anyway. I like kind and good characters with a sad past, fighting for love and frienship :-P
But to answer your question and keep this on otopic:
When I mentioned icons, I was referring to the gender indicator, the level stars and the msnmessenger indicator, in the poster info besides all posts. these have white borders, in order to fuse with lighter backgrounds.
Keep us informed of your progresses with skins. I'll stay tuned!

Cherel, then You love Star Wars :-)
Nerath i do not have exact plans when to do this, not even sure if i will do it. Would You like the idea? When i was seriously about doing this, the forum would really need Your support, as i would not have time to do a nicely moderated and conducted separation of the old forum, and switch to the new one. i'd just do the tech side of setting up the new forum.
If You're interested then maybe we should take the discussion to PM.

Ent, Ner, if you need some assistance with, you know, anything that has do do with graphics*, give me a shout. (*Or anything that requires no technical knowledge of the fora, for that matter.)

...Am I the only one that likes that kind of color scheme? I think everything except dark colors looks better on a black background, especially red and blue and gold. And I couldn't do it all in red, and not too many colors wouldn't clash with the wallpaper-background, so I went with two that do. When you have a colored window backdrop, you really limit the text colors. Black works extremely well because it makes color show up very brightly. I couldn't think of much else to use, because it does match with the dark theme of it all, and the wallpaper. So does the red text. The blue was a mandatory change, because all-red text is too redundant, and gold shows up very well as a highlight. ... Y'know, after looking at other boards' skins, I think I figured out why it's hurting your eyes. I really like busy, complex, popping-out color schemes. To me, most skins I see are bland. Lots of cool grayish shades, or monochromatic, or...just no pizzazz. Well, you guys can come up with some skins you like. Just send me the stuff and I'll create a skin. But as for me, I'll be making them from time to time, and doubtless they will blind you

Yeah, I guess you're right there. Let me summarize how I feel about the skin:
Wallpaper backgrounds are evil. They are big, take long to load, and don't really add much, but rather distract from the forums. Try to achieve effect with a minimum of graphics. (You could try a dumbed-down (darker) version as background for text fields, or that thingie next to post text, with all the personal info stuff, though.) The colors you are using all seem to fight for power here. We have three primary colors, red, blue, and yellow, all in high saturation, and none dominates. Black is a good choice, yes, but it needn't be surrounded by such harshly contrasting colors. You went for a beast-theme. Why not place a slightly reddish-grey as base (background), black for text fields, and dark and light red for accents? The font doesn't need to be red, either. Plain white does the job just fine, and red highlights work much better. But most of all, kill the blue, kill the yellow.

Edited it, despite the fact that I still enjoy blinding color schemes. Is this a little better?
