I'm not sure if anyone else has been following the rumors, headlines, and bits of information falling over the last few months, but the Homeworld intellectual property has been in development.
First, a team made of many of the original developers has re-formed under the name Blackbird Interactive in Vancouver, Canada, and started developing a game that was first called Hardware: Shipbreakers.
Second, the company Gearbox Games bought the intellectual property about a year ago, and later announced they would officially help Blackbird make "Shipbreakers" a true Homeworld story, and have opened up some resources to assist them. Gearbox seems to really appreciate the Homeworld story, and has announced their intention to open up and modernize the code for the big HW games, and produce HD remakes of both Homeworld (2000) and Homeworld 2 (2003)! (Cataclysm was not included in this intellectual property, if I recall.)
Bragging points include re-mastering the original score, and bringing back original voice actors to recreate the voiceover and narration. Plus 3D meshes, textures, effects, etc.
Third, back in June Amazon started accepting pre-orders for a Collecter's Edition release of the remastered games, which included a pretty cardboard box, some pictures, and a few bits of plastic and metal ;-). Mine just shipped and arrived on Friday, so I'm sharing some photos of what's inside:
A full-color book of "Revised historical briefings and artwork"
Download codes for the original and remakes of both games
A die-cast Angel Moon keychain
A ~30cm resin hand-painted LED-illuminated Pride of Hiigara, and Guidestone display stand
The Homeworld:Remastered collection is also available on Steam, and is starting beta trials of online multiplayer gaming... anyone hanging out here feels like it, we could put a group together.
