Well, balsa wood makes sense if you have large flat surfaces on your ship, because if you cut it evenly and well, it's sturdier than card paper.
Use paper-thin plywood if you can get it, actually. I got some at a crafts store once. That stuff is strong for its thickness. It would make a kick-butt model.

neither does wood I actually did a wood mimic from HWC befor school eneded last year. (2004)

well, the blasted person who cleans the house once a month dropped it a few times and broke it. forunatly only the holo emiters fell off which were seperate parts anyway so I can glue them back on and *gasp* host the pic myself! all it took to make it was a band saw and a disc sander to form the parts. Easily made at a school woodshop. I'd make the model PIECES first so you have examples of what the pieces should look like in front of you. aafterwords put both of them together and you have your models. And technically we DO work with wood when we use the paper How did you get a hold of my station so soon?
