So, whats left to do?

What with Eric's site and Yesmasters, not to mention Gremdeks big archive of models, its seems now that the majority of ships and assorted bits and pieces from HW, Cata and HW2 have been done - and most of those now in .pdo format.

So whats left.

From what I can see, just a few Vaygr fighters and the Vaygr frigates. The Bentus (which I seem to recall isn't extractable - could be wrong), Chimera Station, the Tanis derelict, Hiigaran and Vaygr resource collectors and refineries, The Balcora Gate. Proabably a few more nut not that many.

Wow who'd a thought it. When I came across the site maybe 3 or so years ago I thought there were a lot of models on offer but now its increadible....

Haha, i was prettu surprissed too, when I realized that.

I mean as for HW1 all of the mdoels are extractalbe/buildable, so most of them are unfolded. Cata ha many intersection, thus not all models are good for unfolding. HW2 have many very complex ships which are both hard to unfold amd impossible to build after. SO there's really not much left to do in HW universe.

What's left to do? Other games, if you ask me. There are promising games coming which may have unfoldable models (Sins of a solar empire, starcraft2). I will gladly expand my site to those universes as well when the time comes.

Don't worry, i don't think paper modelling will die just yet

Yep I thnk its too big to die now. We've taken it past the critical mass and the reaction is self sustaining ;D

Other games. Yep loads still out there. Hot4Darmat has done a lot - not all - of the I War ships. Increasing numbers of Freespace ships appearing.

Gearz is looking to do Freelancer ships.

I wouldn't mind seeing some ships from Nexus - Jupiter Incident such as

I'm familiar with the the models from Nexus, since I kinda like the game, and they pack a TON of detail into those things. You'd have to be rather determined to do much with them... That's just my humble opinion with minimal paper model experience

I think this is important question, an incredible amount of HW, Cata, HW2 ships have been done, even those that are not the "stars" of the game. these are some of favorites, as they add to the vastness, history, and possibilities of the Homeworld Universe. So what is next? i don't know much about textures and modding, but the Vanaar jet is a perfect example of a good "what if?" model of a next generation warship. how often have you played the game and thought "wouldnt it be cool if they had a ship that..." and you fill in the blank. or how about an NCC-1701D ent. in kushan colors? an x-wing in taiidan colors? or anything from the kadesh mod for HW2? hasnt been completed but there must be a few things...

Still need different fleet colours. Such as Taiidan Republic and elites - Capt Elson's destroyer for example. Or the Soban/ Ferin Sha Fleet from HW2.

another option I have yet to see touched upon is creating completely original models "from scratch". I have no idea how feasible it would be, but having unique starships would be cool... anyone have thoughts on the matter?

well, for starters there are still a slew of derilects/ objects that could be done... I have the HW1 derilect carrier siting next to my computer; there's a fine version of the derilect cruiser as well out there.
Then there's the scaffold ruin; that might make a nice model to display next to the full version.

Or we could head off on another route and start to organize all the models into common formats, make AIs, re-scale them for dioramas, etc.

If people are :really: up for it, we could try to achieve that idea someone (I forget who) mentioned several years ago... come up with a way for people to view the model & unfold without pepakura, and change colors/ size easily.

in short, there are a few more ways to keep the forum alive

the derelicts are great, every time i play HW and HW2 i see an old wreck and it makes me wonder about its back-story again adding to imagination. on the same subject of scratch built models offer a wealth of possibilities, but did you mean in the HW universe or completely new ideas and ships?

my thinking was purely original ideas, not already created for a game or movie. theoretically fan-fiction type stuff, as well as completely new "universes" for ship design. It WOULD present the option of virtually endless ideas, limited only by imagination...

then again, I wouldn't know where to begin, short of just drawing the things

Original designs are nice but the point of the original post was 'What's left to do for the Homeworld series' The talented modelers and people that make this board up were talking specifically about what was left in the game. Anything else would be a suggestion followed by a mesh for them to try and make for us requesting the kit in another post to stay on topic.

forgive my ignorance. I felt it to mean "what's left to do", period, as it's a "paperstarships" forum, not a "paper-homeworld-series-only-starships" forum. check my post count to get the point of how long i've been around...

I only meant to suggest my opinion
