sitting here reading, Glove mentioned atmospheric flight and i remembered
ECHELON, another good combat flight sim.
oh and by the way tachyon was designed in the era of 56k;
it was released april 2000 so even if you have a slow connection it may serve you well.
and map your afterburner button to button #3 on your Logitech Joy Tony.
also turn off your energy rechargers using the B,N,M keys, youll fly faster.

3=afterburner
4=cycle secondary weapon ( trigger+this key allows rapidfire of plasma rockets as Bora)
5=transfer lasers to shields ( energy transfer key)
6=fire ECM ( anti-missile countermeasures)
7=thrust left
8=reverse thrust
9=slide
10=thrust right
HAT:
UP=target boresight ( also the key you use to land on the pads in multi)
DOWN=target nearest enemy
LEFT=transfer shields to lasers (energy transfer)
RIGHT=transfer shields to afterburner (energy transfer)
under Game Controllers;
click the "Rudder Pedals" icon / for twist handle rolling
Throttle icon
i usually keep both hands on the joy and only go to the keyboard to tap buttons 1 and 2 to get instant missile lock when targeting. ( or chatting ingame)
in multi tap the 7 key on the numberpad to bring up the chat box, type your chat then tap enter.
youd be surprised how many new ppl fly ingame for an hour not knowing this.
we usually have to coach them as its fairly obvious when we get someone new, they usually fly around aimlessly with no sense of what they should be doing.
then after we tell them how to communicate, it gets better, and we show them how the game works, how to use "lats" ( lateral thrusters), landing on the pad and how Base Wars works.
sorry my posts are so long...
