I just finished my very first papermodel, a Taiidan Destroyer. Probably not the most 'beginner oriented' model out there. Found the front to be VERY hard to construct. Its mighty crooked. I don't think it shoots straight. The ion cannons definately doesn't point the same way! ;D
But for a first model ever I'm satisfied with it. Learned a lot of lesson from building it. Like, don't use glue from a stick, don't print on A4, this one is just too small for A4 paper!
I'm going to post pictures as soon as I get hold of a camera. ;D

I'd suggest trying the Kadeshi Mothership sometime. It was the first one I made and wasn't too insanely difficult. All I had to do was make sure the sections lined up straight, which was made easier by the round shape (tilts too much? rotate it until it's straight!).
And yeah, glue sticks are woefully inadequate for this kind of thing. I think the last time I used it was... I think it was to apply some posterboard to a large face on the Taiidan Mothership. White glue should be the standard, if not superglue.
In any case, let's see the destroyer!

Hi Jacob, welcome aboard! Don't be too ticked off at your destroyer; it was my first HW paper model too! And look where it got me after a few months, now I'm creating my own models! I did print it out on A4 paper, as I (and many with me I suppose) don't have the luxury of owning an A3 printer. My destroyer wasn't send to the bin (some of my first own models were) and I still watch it, from time to time... ;D Looks pretty right? And the turrets rotate too (thanks for Auris' AI files/advise:) The only trouble I had (apart from the fact that it IS a difficult model; be patient when building!) was the joint between the front and rear (I cut out the inbetween bulkhead, and slid the rear into the front a bit) and the obvious seams on the rear side: Ahh, and there is the destroyer side by side with my second HW build: Ent-E's Qwaar-Jet heavy cruiser (turrets rotate too). In my opinion they both are pretty much up to scale (both printed on A4 paper) If you'd practice a bit, study the unfolds & parts before building, just about anyone can build a nice model from paper! ;D Keep on building! Were curious about your models! ;D

I got a hold of a camera and was able to shoot some photos. So here goes! Only 3 pictures turned out good (I tooks 9 total!) Those are the 3 good pictures. Well...even thoug mine appears to have some battledamage or have been exposed to very local and very powerful gravityfields, then I'm still proud of it! It took about 5 hours to make. The mainproblem was that I had an idea of how this ship should look after folding. But I couldn't remember the details. So many of the folding lines where rather confusing, I didn't know which way or how much to bend. I used a pdo from Eric's papermodelspage along with the pekura-viewer. Maybe there is someting better out there? I used it as a practice model, as my dream is to have a Hiigaran Battle Cruiser and Carrier and a Vaygr Battle cruiser, if I could find the Sajuuk and Progenitor Dreadnought, those would be cool too! Hi Jacob! Those are nice pics & nice model too! Okay, it's a bit crooked, but it still depicts the destroyer well. 5 hours build time?! Man, thats a record! I've build mine in 5 evenings! For foldlines: the dashed (----) lines are 'mountain folds' (pointing outwards), and the dash-dot (-.-.-.-) lines are 'valley folds' (pointing inwards). But you've probably learned that by now. Use the Pepakura 3D window if you're uncertain about wich way to fold, always works for me! If you're interested in the Sajuuk (=pdo) or Progenitor Dreadnaught (=jpeg) models try Yessmassters site! You can find a link (& an up to date list of available paper models!) in this thread: Starship Requests -> Available Homeworld Ship List thread. Yoji already has build the Sajuuk: Showcase -> Random Showcase (page 3, I believe). It's HUGE, about 1 meter I believe! But I would stick with Yoji's advice: try the Kadeshi Mothership (in color, if you can!) first. It's a big model but fairly well to build! Don't bother about the HW2 model at the start (unless you're up for an even bigger challenge ) they can be oh-so tricky to build, as the ingame models are more intricate due to better (modern) grafics abilities. Ah well, who am I to be the judge of that? Just commence building your next item of interest, the more you build, the better you'll get at it! right? Surprise us!

I never noticed a difference in fold lines!! I never realized that some were represented in another way than others. Thanks for the hint! Jacob

My first model was the destroyer! Cool model to have! I found it a bit fiddley too and it nearly got binned, but i discovered the wonders of superglue and it was saved! ;D ;D
