Minimal Requirements for Models to be posted at PaperStarships
First to know: this is no offense against anyone. i just want to make sure that all models found on PaperStarships are actually buildable, and meet minimal criteria regarding the quality.
You can post Your models for "testing" in the forums. Here You can post models in every state, it's no problem when it don't has assembly instructions etc... then, when time has come You can finish the model, and try asking me if i dont post it at PaperStarships.
So lets move on, here are the requirements. A model that is going to be hosted at PaperStarships should have:
-good quality:
no messed up JPG compression, and no low-res printouts please. It's easier to cut out and assemble the parts when they're higher res, and it's looking far better. Make sure you make the pages of Your model at least at a decent resolution. File-size is totally irrelevant on a paper model, so use good quality compression, or BMP.
-assembly instructions:
You can assemble the model You just made, but others can't. Even if You think it's total easy. How weird the parts layout seems for someone who has just DL-ed the model depends on how good he knows the ship, and on his sense of 3D.
This don't means You have to do exact part-per-part AI's for every ship, but at least for more complicated parts, modules of Your ships. This means, i won't deny a Taiidan probe when it has no AI's but i will deny a full-detail Vaygr BC (so no one feels offended:-)) when it hasn't.
Reference pics are a good idea too.
-photo of assembled model:
i've got some models where im not sure that they can even be built. And when yes, how messed up they would look. When i see a photo of the model that is the greatest help in making out how the final model will look like. Also, it's encouraging when DL-ing a model when You can view it first, so You can see how nice Your ship will look like:-)
Always remember, that nobody has to churn out models in a few minutes or hours by running the 3D model straight thru Pepakura... take yourself the time, rearrange the parts/flaps so it's easier to build, delete unnecessary fold lines, make assembly instructions, etc.. and at least ASSEMBLE YOUR MODEL BEFORE SENDING IT TO ME... it's the greatest trial for the model... when You cannot assemble it Yourself how do You think others will do it better? i made a master model of every my released paper starships. (The Khar-Toba is an exception, but it still isn't on PaperStarships) For me the ultimate final trial for my model is, when i see it assembled by someone else.
EDIT: On most HW2 models those very thin lines would need to be eliminated thru remodeling because they really aren't needed on a paper model and it's annyoying to make 2 folds in 1mm distance from each other...
