Reaserch Progressed: modeling weird objects

I know this is gonna look REALLY stupid to you at first but i dident have a high polly mesh to work with. I used the Sample earth mesh that comes with metasequoia to demo a few different ways Wierd shaped objects can be modeled.





This style I call Quartering. It dident really divide the earth into quarters but it divided the into eighths. sounds kind of silly but most ships ive seen with any kind of dome usually only have it on such a side to where it will make scence... somehow.

This techniech may also leave you with a hollow section of the model despite the strength of the module.


This I call The orange slice (or earth slice in this case). I call it this cause it reminds me of the way my family slices and orange for an afternoon snack.


This is pretty straight foward. Its earth in layers going from north to south poles.




Id continue with this work if someone can Email me a wierd shaped dome from a ship. in fact, the higaran probe from HW2 would work nicely.

u had been doing sum wreid sh*t girl, first that freezing thing on paper, now earth moduling, but well whatever looks interesting modulling suggestions

HERE u can find hw2 meshes where u can experiment on, here is from I took the mover mesh out...

The main point of that part of the post (which i'll add to) was modeling a spherical shape. i intend to do a weirder shaped dome moduling with the vaygr proximity probe.

Glove, I think I understand her strategies. The freezing, I think is meant to strengthen the paper bond by chilling the paper so that the fibers freeze together and hopefully stay in that position after they warm up, or by freezing the glue.

This, I'm more sure about. By dividing the ship (or planet, in this case) into sections like that, you reinforce the model. The blank paper that seals off the cut sections would end up on the inside of the model, supporting the hull of the ship (or the crust of the planet).

Good strategy, but you'd have to work it out in such a way that the ships won't be printed in ribbons rather than parts. Perhaps sectioning off things like the body, then the guns, and such -- separating parts rather than just slicing the ship?

When the model is dome being moduled it shouldent be a load of strips. Im mainly setting this out so everyone can know how I would do dome shapes like with the EVE ships im trying to get a hold of.
