Alright, gentlemen. How do we kill Superman? Is there any way to save the sound from a movie file as a .wave or .mp3? I'm looking to extract the soundtrack from Pirate Baby's Cabana Battle Street Fight 2006 for use on my iPod. I already asked my usual haunt on IRC, but I only got sarcasm. Seeing as people here go through multiple extractions to make little paper spaceships, I figured this was a good place to ask.

Heh, about killing superman... oh, off-topic... uhm, but wait!... bha, nm. Well I would go about doing this with a combo of "Virtua Dub" and "Audacity", both being completely free programs! First I use Virtua Dub to extract the sound as a wav... 12min of audio, that rounds up to about 120MB of data, out of the question! But you could obviously just take out parts that you'd wanna hear... la la la la... after that, you open the wav in Audacity and convert it to mp3, voilá... now, that last wav->mp3-part could surely be done muuuuuch smoother with another program, but since "I" already have it installed, "I" would use that. Oh heck, I went on ahead and ripped the whole piece fer ya, had the movie and the software installed, so what the heck: Pirate Babys Cabana Battle Street Fight 2006 MP3(MP3@ 192kbps 16.67MB) That's just a full length rip, so that's all the music from the movie in one file. I'd suggest you do some work of yourown and segment them as following: Intro, 1st Level, Fighting Ring, 3rd Level, Board Meeting, Pirate Baby, Outro ... or something like that. I could do it for you if you feel unable to do it yourself, but if you're satisfied with the provided file, just enjoy. ^_^

nicely said! and here i was about to suggest analog ripping... just record via the audio out cable lol. also, you can probably use a plugin for a media player (example, winamp) that automatically converts the output sound to wav or mp3 or probably any format of your choice, all as it plays. i like the sound of conand's programs here, too tho.

Oh oh oh, I had a "Sound Blaster Live! 1024" a while ago, those really cheap, but rather awesome sound cards. With those you had a wyhiwyg-input-channel (what you hear is what you get), so with it you could take the standard "Windows Sound Recorder(sndrec32.exe)" and change the Sound Recording-input from the 'mic' to that wyhiwyg-channel, hence you would record everything that came out of the speakers. Too bad that the chip burned out on me, I almost cried a little, so now I'm stuck with this piece of s**t AC'97 sound card integrated in my motherboard. ;_;

Wow, that was easy. No distortion or annoying artifacts of any kind, either. Thanks muchly, conand!

I usually edit the movie in windows movie maker or a similar program and save only the section I want, then use a program like AoA Audio Extractor or Video mp3 Extractor to extract the music

Well, I don't care much for "windows movie maker", but the other two sounds nifty... you can save the part you want of the audio in VirtuaDub as well as in Audacity, so no need to handle any video files more than necessary... using Audacity also allows you to add fade-ins and -outs, and other cool things. ... and if anyone is interested I did a new rip with the audio separated into files, was so bored out of my skull today! Also, I made it look like those 1337-rips with a sfv, nfo, goofy naming 'n s**t like that, if you're familiar with it? Anyhow, RapidShare this time, SaveFile seems to have hiccups too often, might stop using it if it doesn't shape up. 1337-rip (RAR@17519 KB)

On a similar note, is it possible to extract or record the sound file from a DVD? A friend of mine is looking to get an exercise routine on a CD or MP3 player. Is this at all possible?
