Hello everyone.
I just joined the forum and I have a question.
I have been working on the TIE Fighter model from the paperstarships site, and want to do the Interceptor and Bomber as well. I've been frustrated and dissapointed with these models because the body of the model is small, and the way it's unfolded it's very hard to get a good build.
I've been using a paint program to clean up and enhance the models, but it would sure be great to have the original material that the unfold was created from. Does anyone have a connection to the original author, or know where I can get the original materials.
My goal is to create some better TIE series models, and instructions for assembling them, then I'll post all for the site.
Any help/info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks
PaperStarships rocks!

Hello. From what i see, meshes used for TIE class fighters posted on PS aren't very high quality. It might be wiser to try finding other 3d models. X-wing Alliance upgrade project has some nice models with good textures, you might want to take a closer look at them at: www.xwaupgrade.com/Some examples: (click for larger pics)

Hello ! I already building TIE fighter of EH_AceTFL, and really the model is small... Some exist solutions to maintain the spherical format of the body of the ship... One of them is to do a sphere male mold as a type of outline caliber, like this each hemisphere is set up separately without a lot mattering of with the spherical format... With the ready assembly of the two hemispheres of TIE it is enough to press the mold in the contrary of the model to get the spherical form...It was as soon as did mine, that unhappily i don't have pictures because I gave the model of present for a friend that is fan of Star Wars... Other possibilities exist of modeling classic TIE, a was appeared already, it is to use the textures of the one of the it game X Wing Alliance and of their many MODS... I saw that you are building up my compatriot's models Octoberto, those are excellent TIE models, and they are scale 1/100... Another excellent model is TIE of the Russian magazine Modelyatko, it is scale 1/33 and it is very detailed besides with interior, you find him free for Download in : model.icegroup.ru/main_en.phtml?page=modelBye ! And Welcome! PĂ©ricles

Thanks for the replies.
I will look into the material at xwaupgrade.
I had already found the model from Icegroup as well. I was just wanting to improve the ones at paperstarships also.
I will look into the stuff at xwaupgrade.
Thanks again

It's about time we get someone else planning to do instructions and such. Everyone here is so busy. (Including me. Blasted exams!)
Yeah, spheres are a real pain. Try to stuff the model with something, or use that mold idea listed earlier. I actually wonder why I haven't tried that.

I've been experimenting and cleaning up the original patterns for both the Tie Fighter and Tie Interceptor and have found that good results come with lots (and lots) of patience.
I didn't really follow up on the mold idea because I wasn't sure how to best go about making one. Stuffing it with tissue or something might be worth trying though...
When I get the Interceptor done I'll post pics of both and start working on some instructions in tutorial format.
Where would be the best place to post the updated patterns? Every time I've tried sending email to Enterprise-E his mailbox is full.
Regards

Hello The idea of the molds works yes, I already tested it to do several types of cones and other concave pieces... The inconvenient of the outline molds, is that they don't work well for very big pieces... I already saw at great stores of tools in the internet type Mikro Mark in the USA metal boxes with the negative format (female) of spheres and cones, I believe that with a tool of those it is possible to work well... The technique of the molds is explained here in this site: www.modelismo.alternativo.nom.br/spinner.phpUnhappily the page in English is disabled but through the drawings it is possible to perfectly understand the process... I agree with the Nerath spheres in paper are a nightmare, I will take advantage for show WIP of my TIE of Modelyatko... I used common paper of impression 75g to do the external part and the covering, I still think the best way to reproduce spheres in paper is through equatorial sections... Bye!

Hey Steve.. The meshes Ace used are from the Starwars 'New Rebellion' MOD ~ for the original Homeworld game. I've got the bomber and interceptor originals here, but take a deep breath and read on. ( Actually you need to get out your whacking stick cause I owe you a big apology ~ knew you were working on the TIEz but I hadn't checked out Ace's SW models before.) Explanation ~ The textures for models in HW are .lif files = lotz of them and their pretty SMALL! some 16x16 pixels. Sucks eh! certainly had us banging our pots and pans back at the start. Its probably not what you want to hear, but Deimos suggestion is valid, there's way better meshes floating about out there. Give me a day or so and check your PM's @ CMnet for the two originals I have. sorry mate... I owe you TWO now! Hi cris23 Don't apologis for your inglis ~ we know what you mean! and most of us can't spel ow owne langwidg reel good etha... Welcome aboard!
