I'm almost ready to finish a model of the Kharak Mothership, but I realized a little problem. The instructions I got included a stand, but I planned on hanging it from a thread. Seeing as the Kharak Mothership is going to be a lot bigger and heavier than my Kadesh Worldship, I'm starting to wonder how to go about this. Should I reinforce the model? Where should I anchor the threads? How many threads should I use? How should I balance it? Answering any of these questions would be greatly appreciated. The model is currently in all it's larger parts and hasn't been glued together yet. I'm in the middle of straightening the larger faces with posterboard and contemplating the addtion of lights to the bays. I got the template from this fellow.

as long you don't have proper dimensions I see one good way to reinforce by gluing additional much thicker paper inside the model, especially on the vast surfaces.
I read again your post and I see you've already made this.

you need not have to reinforce the model, but if you wish, it should not be that hard to make a loop out of cardboard and glue it to the top or you ship.
make sure the loop has a tab extending to1-2 CM away from the actual loop and fold that part before glueing to your ship. it should hang in an upright postion just like in the game. I'll make a graphic if needed.
Good luck ^_^

Try sliping a couple of threads in the hole between the main hull and the bridge, and hang a weight from the bottom to balance it.
