I'm looking to make some models that would be able to fit into a 1" square. I guess I could just scale down some pre-existing models, but they would probably retain too much detail to be useful.
So I was wondering how a model built at a lower level of detail would look. I don't know much about unfolding models, but I understand that there are three or five different levels of detail for different viewing distances. I imagine one of those would be easier to make at tiny sizes.
I don't have any ship in mind yet. I was just wondering how feasible it would be to make such models.

yes, there are theoretically 5 models with different LOD, although not all ships have 5 and in some cases models differ in texture only. It would be possible, but the los LOD models are really ugly and only thing one may not know that is that they are only points on the screen when used.

How did this work out if at all? Because this could directly relate to what I am looking for which is small models to do tabletop gaming with.
Please message me Yoji if you discover the secret to tiny models.

Well, I've found out about HW2 paper models yesterday and after few hours, even with my terrible english, I can import ships from WH2 in any LOD level. And if I can, you can, it's easy...

Late, but I felt like posting this.
For my part I've tried to use the lower LODs from HW1 for smaller ships, but be warned that not all of them are concerned with 'geometric completion'. Basically, some of them have floating bits in mid-air that don't connect to one another.
