HI all, I just found this site after getting into Homeworld paper models. I do a lot of plastic modeling and have always liked the ships from Homeworld. I was researching the ships to scratch build a plastic model and happened upon fructose's site. Any how to make a long story short I downloaded some of the models and tried my hand at building one. I am still planing on doing a plastic version but I have some scale questions. THe Taiidan Scout I built seems to be around 1/100 or maybe 1/72. In the pictures the seated figure is 1/72 and the standing is 1/100. I am leaning towards 1/100. Some of the discriptions of the Scout list it as being pretty much an engine with just enough room for a cockpit so I know it must not be that big..but who knows. I mean the cockpit on the Hiigaran Interceptor seems rather small compared to the main body so that makes me think it's rather large. The jump in size from scout to interceptor must be big.

The Taiidan Scout is 47 in-game Units long. How big such a unit is is not entirely clear, but I've come to think they're not meters, as initally assumed (and displayed in the game) but closer to feet. That would put the Scout at 14.3 m. Not sure how big that model is, but you can measure and derive a scale from those numbers easily. Corresponding discussion on the RB

Thanks for the response and the link! I think you are right about the measurement, especialy after seeing this concept picture:

I do not actualy have the game anymore.

Man, I'd hate to fly one of those and have this huge back end of my ship swinging around while I flew. Either give me a frigate, where I'm on a crew and the ship is more based around power than raw motion and speed, or give me something sufficiently tiny that I feel I'm actually in control of the thing. Kind of like driving a van, to me. I can't drive a van for squat because there's this whole other section of car that just isn't attached to me, metaphorically speaking. I also noticed that there's a huge jump in size between corvette and frigate. Not that there needs to be anything in the middle ground, because it would be rather pointless, but you go from little ships to big ion-throwing hulks very quickly. I wonder how big the bridge area of the frigate is compared to the people in it. And how many crewmen do you think it takes to run one? Edit: Addressing Glove below: "So I have weird metaphors. Sue me."

The above post made me laugh at the "section of car that just isn't attached to me" thing for no aparent reason.
