Hello everybody!
I would like to ask, are there any new models being created, is there anything you'd like to get posted to the PaperStarships site?
I'm asking here, because sadly, the new shiny on-server PHPBB forum is compromised by spam registrations so badly, that there is no real activity, and i cannot tell real registrations between hundreds of spambots.
This brings to new question, about what to do to resolve the situation? As the PHPBB forum is unusable really, i think i'll temporarily relay the forum to this site until a reliable engine for the new forum is found.
I'd really like to see an increase in community activity again.

Hey Ent-E, Sorry for not ever replying to your post over on the other forum.
One of the things that was really neat about Homeworld from a modeling perspective was the relatively small model size. Even at maximum resolution, the models rarely clocked over a few hundred polys which made them very paper-able. I think an issue a lot of people have been running into is that most models any more are, quite frankly, huge. I've got a few I've started on that are just disgustingly large and take a really long time to break apart (and you've got to be really really dedicated to fold a 3000+ poly model)
The other thing I'm thinking is: Homeworld came out over 10 years ago. I was 9 when it first came out. It's really one of the first game that I remember and probably the only one I still play occasionally. I'm in college now. I've got some time to spend on the hobby and have certainly done more during my time in school than any time before. I also think (and it sounds like a lot of others are going through this now) that when I leave school, I'm going to have a lot less time to spend on stuff like PSS and the like. As I was one of the youngest age groups to really experience the game when it came out, I think we're really, as a group, getting older and having less time for hobbying and the like.
Personally, I'd love to see the community pick back up again. We've certainly got a group of people who are really supportive and friendly. I think what we, as a group, might want to look for is a game or games with models which are actually reasonable to model in paper. If we could get a newer game (and the fans from there) to join in, I think it'd get a lot of new people to join in, which I think would help get the forum going again.
Just my thoughts. Apologies if it doesn't make sense or if I'm rambling on. This is a message I've been meaning to write for a while now but it's really late so I'm not sure I made everything logical.

What you say is only partially true, because there are even a few of us, the 'original crew' who still might do paper modeling as a hobby, and they might eventually create new models as well. On the other part, there should be constantly new members joining, who are picking up the hobby.
Of course, when PaperStarships took off, paper modeling in general was a new hobby, and PS was one of the first sci-fi specialized paper modeling sites, which was a great extra compared to today where 'the market is saturated' with paper model sites.
About complexity of models - many paper modelers build incredibly complex models, many times more detailed then anything currently on PaperStarships, so that is not really a factor. The Homeworld and other 'entry level' models are still available from the site, i'd just like an influx of new models, be it entry or pro level. Only 'requirement' is, that they shall be starships.
Ah, while replying to your post, i almost forgot what i wanted to tell in the first place. The PaperStarships site now officially links to this forum again, the spam ridden phpBB board will be deactivated for now. Hopefully this will help with community building a bit.

I have to say, I don't think I've dropped by in the last year! But I think about doing so, maybe once a month. I still have some models-to-finish with me in college, but I haven't been able to make time for it. Nice to hear you back every now and again, E!

Yep, same here! 'RL' issues have kept me very busy the last few years, and kept me far from continuing my hobbies. Our two new family members got the paper modeling pretty much side-tracked. From time to time I try to develop new paper models, and sometimes build a bit too. But sadly I'm lacking space and time to get some good progress with it. I'm still enthousiastic about modelling paper starships, and HW related ones in particular, and I'm not planning on letting it go. Every now and then I take a peak at the forums to see what's going on. As a 'guest-Admin' for Yessmassters YHPM site I've tried (still am!) to make HW models available for the public, and have invited others to add their share as well. But so far I have heard no replies to that. It's sad to see that the PHPBB forum got compromised by spam registrations, Enterprise-E! Just when you've got it up and running again! The more sites there are, the more interest it might get from the public. Inviting new people to the paper starship side of the hobby, and motivate the existing members to add and share. It'll be a tough job getting the interest back again as I see a lot of shifting in interest amongst former paper model enthousiasts. Quite a few of the original crew (Those Great Ones That Have Started This All) I haven't seen around here for a while. (Or did I just miss out on them?) I do hope the interest will come around, may we might see some more activity on the forums? For now, may I wish you all a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Best regards, GreatDane

Thanks for your reply, good to see some people still around. Seems this forum has a minimal activity still
What is strange is, how PS V2 had a spike of activity when it was launched, got a few new models even, and then it suddenly stopped. Probably because of the spam ridden forum though... Well, lesson learned: don't use PHPBB

Seems in beginning of this year, PaperStarships' webhost ceased activity.
Are there people still interested out there? Would re-uploading the website to another web-host be worthwile?

Hi there, Ent-E! It's nice to see you're still around here from time to time! ;D *Mass respect!!* My interest in paperstarships hasn't deceased, although family life and our current situation has kept me side-tracked for some time now. And I'll bet there are lots of other 'old enthousiasts' that would hate to see the PaperStarships site go sliding down into 'memory lane'! I just wish we'd see some more reactions posted here and 'there' sometimes.(In short: 'HEY GUY'S & DOLL'S WHERE YOU AT, AT THIS MOMENT??') So, for me, I'd say I would hate to see the PaperStarship Site to left to die! To me (and many others, I guess) it has been one of the first steps into the world of paper modelling for me, and Sci-Fi modelling in particular. ;D To me it's an iconic site, and I don't want to be left searching some 'way-back' search engine for models, pics, posts, comments or anything else about the PS site! *Aaargh! Not again!* If it's up to me I'd say: ' Keep the vibe alive! Don't leave the path you (and many of us) liked so much!' So: 'Please, don't let the PS site to die?'

Hi Enterprise-E! I’m definitely interested and it’s an iconic site for me as well. Now my little nephew is getting in on Paper starships and i would hate for my nephew to not have access to one of the best resources on the net for this. Please keep this site going! The site and the community mean a lot to me. I don't post often but i do lurk a lot. When i was unemployed, this gave me a new hobby to do to keep my spirits up while i looked for work, so as odd as it sounds; this site has gotten me through some dark times in my life (no joke!). I hope Paper Starships sticks around for a very long time ;D!
