I was just thinking, how about a warhammer-style tabletop game using paper models from HW? you print them out, assemble them and play!! only problem is, all the ships would have to be re-done to the sam scale... what do u guys think?

have u evere actually seen a game of warhammer? basically, there are lots of figurines, and lots of weapon types, for instance a heavy ion beam might have strength 10 (it can automatically go through armour up to armour 10), a range of 48" as it has a pretty long range, and armor penetration 2 which means it can ignore up to 2+ armour saves (an armour save is the amount u roll on the dice to ignore shots, eg. a 4+ armour save means if u r hit by an attack and roll 4 or more, u ignore it completely.)

Tabletop is strategy gaming in real life. Instead of relying on a computer, players take turns. By the way, there was an enormous thread on this at the Relic Forums...nothing really happened. To make a Homeworld tabletop game, we would have to design all the rules, shrink and simplify models, actually find friends nearby to play the game with

There are a number of generic starship combat rules available. They are designed to be adaptable and suit the players favourite subject (although they usually provide their own "universe" and ship designs so you buy their gaming pieces). One excellent set of rules is "Full Thrust" from Ground Zero Games www.gtns.co.uk/store1/commerce.cgi?product=RULES&exact_match=on&template=rules&cart_id=2946021.19439You download some updates to the game which gives a flavour for Full Thrust here www.gtns.co.uk/store1/commerce.cgi?page=downloads.html&cart_id=2946021.19439www.star-ranger.com/FullThrust.htmIts also worth checking out Cold Navy. Don'y have their own rules, but have some excellent ship designs. The Full Thrust rules are easily adapted to suit any situation including Homeworld. So the real problem is the gaming pieces. Unless you have a huge area for a game set up, using playing pieces the size of normal paper models will be impractical. Options might be to print off a two dimensional top view of the shop reduced in size to an inch or so and mount on stiff card. Or, to assemble a single miniature model from plastic card or carve from wood. Make a mould from a silicone rubber and then cast multiple copies using a resin compound or white metal.

Tabletop war and strategy gaming is nothing like D&D, which is a roleplay game.
Personally I detest Role Play Games and from what I hear, their popularity has been falling off for many years.

Depends on what you define as Role Playing. RPG's are also a kind of video game...I think they rock but everyone has an opinion. As for Dungeons and Dragons, I've never tried games of that sort. Just curious as to why you don't like them, Tony. I know nothing about them. *shrug*
Glove, your link doesn't work.

Short answer. Because I've played them ;D
More involved answer. The PC "role play" games like Final Fantasy are fine. You select a character that develops in skill and ability as the game progresses.
But the "live" role play I find just too embarasing. I've played RPG where players have turned up in costume!!! Who have so imersed themselves in the role that....
Well, lets just say that they were a judge's decison short of being sectioned under the Mental Health Act and spending their days enjoyng electro convulsive therapy.....
Hell, I knew one guy who had learned Tolkien's "Elvish" language and (when drunk) refused to talk in any recognisable language.
Now I know that this is normal for Geordies but this character had waved goodbye to normal!!
